Goals are the objects of a person’s ambition.
Simply put, your goals are your desired end result..
Few years back, I hate to set goals for the fear of achieving them. So I will say to myself, it’s in my mind, I won’t forget it..
But guess what, before the week runs out, I already forgot.
At the end of the year, I would realize, am still the same with no progress either.
As I began studying successful people in my field I realized they are goal setters.
Thus I took up the challenge and begin to set goals for almost every aspects of my life. The good news is… I began to get results.
HERE ARE THE 7 WAYS TO SET ACHEIVABLE GOALS
1.PICK UP AREAS OF YOUR LIFE FOR WHICH YOU WANT TO SET GOALS AND WRITE THEM DOWN
What areas of your life will you want to make better before the year runs out?
Areas of your life such as: Financial, Career, Family, Relationships (formal and informal), Physical, Spiritual, Social and so on….
2. UNDERSTAND WHY YOU ARE SETTING THE GOALS AND WRITE THEM DOWN
Although an ACHEIVABLE GOAL must be S.M.A.R.T , but it is essential you understand why it is you want your goals achieved and write them down.
Writing down the purpose or benefits of accomplishing your goals will keep you motivated when you’re about giving up.
So, for a sales rep whose goal is to reach more customers and make more sales, getting PROMOTED or increase in pay cheque could be the fellow’s WHY.
3. BE SPECIFIC
You must be specific with what you want.
Remember you need goals to show you the way through. So, while setting your goals, you have to be very specific about what you intend achieving.
For instance, instead of saying I want to increase my savings , I would write down that I want to save $1,000 in my savings account.
4. BE MEASURABLE
If you want to achieve your goals, you have to be measurable.
Ask yourself, “how will I know when it is accomplished?”
Using the savings account example from above. If you wrote down you want to build your savings account and we’re not specific about the amount, you would not be able to measure it.
Make your goals specific and measurable so you can measure your progress
5. YOUR GOALS MUST BE MUST BE ACHIEVABLE
For a student in highschool, setting a goal to becoming the Director General of a Multinational corporations may not be achievable. However, becoming the lead student in the next examination can be achievable by such student.
So, it is essential we set achievable goals… Imagine I set the goal to climb Mount Everest in the next 9 months… when I haven’t climb the one in my backyard….Lol
Set achievable goals.
6. IT MUST BE RELEVANT
Goals should be relevant to the direction you want your life to take. This is because, the more attention you give to your purpose or what you do, the better things will get in that direction… By keeping goals aligned with this, you’ll develop the focus you need to get ahead and do what you want. Don’t set widely scattered and inconsistent goals, it will fritters your time and your life away.. Please don’t..
7. IT MUST BE TIME-BOUND
Your goals must have deadline. This means that you know when you can celebrate your success. When you’re working on a deadline your sense of urgency increases and achievement will come that much quicker…
Take Note: Evert set goals is bound to be achieved when they are written down…
